How much my heart caught in my throat when I read the headline. Working at my desk, my phone pinged me an update and I glanced over to catch it.
I gasped at the resonance of it. "How right!" I thought. "How gracious!" What substitution: the redemption of something truly awful turned into something truly great. Made greater even because of how awful it was. I squeezed my eyes tight shut.
The perfection of Truth reflected in this earthly story.
For everything had fallen apart for this bride, at the most crucial moment and on the most public of stages - the whole world. The horror! The shame!! The unbearable exposure and nakedness of it all. What could be done?
Then right at the last minute, at exactly the right time and in the most public way, a Prince stepped in.
As I watched along with billions on Saturday, the bride in white walked up the nave alone.
Yet when she reached the entrance to the Quire, a Prince was there --
waiting for her
welcoming her
offering her his arm
telling her how beautiful she looked
and walking her somberly and soberly up to the altar with his love and devotion writ deep upon his face.
And, just as in the mystery of the Trinity, he was not only a Prince but a Father too. And a Comforter.
Did anyone else catch it? The parallels? So in-your-face-clear, right in front of our eyes?! How my heart swelled with gratitude and I bit my lip to fight back the tears.
'The church's one Foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is His new creation, by water and the Word; from heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride; with His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.'
"Yes," I breathed, as I toasted these Royal celebrations. "All shall be well."
Our Prince has come.
Our Prince has come.
